Founder, Ramp Health
Background
TJ Bongiorno, a former sales engineer, ventured into the e-commerce space by starting his brand 2.5 years ago while he still had a full-time job. After securing funding, TJ took the leap into full-time focus on Ramp Health in November 2024. His goal was scaling the business and getting it to profitability quickly.
Challenge
As an upstart brand, Ramp Health had strong sales growth and happy customers but was still unprofitable. TJ's core challenge was getting the brand to profitability while still growing the top line quickly. As a solo operator with zero finance experience, TJ needed real-time financial insights to make informed decisions about where to invest and where to pull back. In July 2025, TJ posted on X: "For the love of god.... Someone please make an AI eCommerce version of quick books. Just copy the way triple whale displays and allows you to manipulate data but for finances."
The Discovery
TJ's X post caught the attention of the community, and everyone tagged Drew Fallon and Iris in the comments. "I had never heard of them," TJ recalls. After learning about Iris, he became a customer and found exactly what he was looking for. Iris provided the tools TJ desperately needed: contribution margin tracking, daily burn rate monitoring, and live P&L visibility. With strategic support from Chris at the Iris team and the Iris platform, TJ was able to make smarter decisions faster.
Results
Iris played a pivotal role in accelerating Ramp Health's path to profit: • Profitability: Iris gave TJ real-time visibility into how advertising was impacting daily profitability at the business level (not in-platform ROAS). He used it to run faster experiments to know exactly where to pull back and where to increase investment. • Decision-Making: One of the key decisions that TJ made was focusing his team on operational experiments within the existing ad budgets instead of just scaling. Ramp Health is now driving more profit with less ad spend as a result. • Stakeholder Management: Iris makes it easy for TJ to share real-time transparency with investors and other key stakeholders. He now has more time to execute on profit growth initiatives instead of managing reports. In TJ's own words: "Having every single dollar accounted for on a daily basis is incredible - nothing like big red numbers to let you know when you lose money on the day."
